I can either send my phone's hotspot TO an ethernet cable, or get internet FROM an ethernet cable by using the device. I then plug in into the WAN port of my router, and get my phone's WiFi broadcast all over the house from the wireless router and also to the hard wired LAN connections, which means my printer gets internet through the Ethernet cable. The range extender can be nice if you live in a big house and need a little extra oomph at one end of the house, and a cheap alternative for it.
